Adoption Highlights!

We’re so thrilled to share news of some adoptions that have taken place over the summer and late spring! While our shelter residents are well loved and cared for, we are overjoyed when we place them in forever homes. Through the work of our compassionate staff and dedicated volunteers, and with assistance from generous donors and community supporters, Cove Animal Rescue is committed to ensuring that once homeless pets find the happiness and security they deserve in loving home environments. Meet a few of our “alumni” below!

Allie, a young German Shepard, is seen above getting ready to move on to her new life and loving family. Allie came to Cove after being rescued from the recent hoarding situation at a Glen Cove house, along with another dog and hundreds of cats. Then there’s Dante, who found his forever home a few months ago. This well-mannered, 4-year-old husky-shepherd mix with striking blue eyes, was a hit when he calmly marched with us in Glen Cove’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in March.

Luna and JoJo (above) were also recently adopted. Luna (left), a terrier mix who
is about 2 years old, is remembered by Cove staff for her incredibly sweet nature and love of belly rubs. JoJo, a young pitbull-terrier, loved her walks around the neighborhood and was always up for a rousing game of fetch.

We’ve had a number of cat adoptions this summer as well. Below are Shiro, Jack, and, Sheldon (clockwise from left), three handsome dudes who are now enjoying life with their forever families.

And two weeks ago, this adorable orange and white kitty was welcomed into his loving family, who named him Elvis. Less than a year old, Elvis is a ball of energy as he races around in his new home, though he’s equally content just to survey his environment from his comfy basket perch.

More good news on adoptions: Seven kittens, affectionately known as the “Days of the Week” cats while they were at the shelter (since they were called Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc.), have all found homes. Additionally, we’re very pleased that the cats and kittens we cared for after their rescue from the Glen Cove hoarder, have all been adopted into safe homes with compassionate “pet parents.”

Again, a special shout-out to everyone who stepped in during the stressful hoarding situation and its aftermath, including Nassau County, the Glen Cove Mayor’s office, local rescuers, first responders, various veterinary establishments, the media, community organizations and all who donated supplies and money to help us nurse these animals back to health so they might finally find the peaceful, cared-for lives they so deserve.

Congratulations to our adoptees! We are so grateful to the individuals and families who opened their hearts and homes to these once homeless animals. We wish you many joyful days of contented purrs and happy tail wags!

Meet Dilly and Ralphie

Dilly, a young tuxedo kitty, has had a bit of a tough start. Found on the street, Dilly needed treatment for a urinary tract infection and is being sheltered at the hospital where she was treated. At 3 years old, she is playful and friendly. If you’re unable to adopt Dilly at this time, please consider fostering her. Fostering a shelter pet often goes a long way in helping the animal get used to a home environment. Of course, our hope is that someone will make Dilly a permanent part of their home soon. Though sweet toward humans, Dilly does prefer to be an only pet.

Ralphie is a relatively new resident at Cove. A 1-year-old Lab mix, Ralphie is a bit shy at first, but as soon as he gets comfortable, he’s ready to play. Ralphie enjoys long walks and is ready to find a family up for taking those walks with him. This happy fellow is friendly toward other dogs, and though not a requirement for adopting him, he’d love to have a canine buddy at his new home.

Never Too Young to Show Community Spirit

Kids’ lemonade stands have always been a traditional rite of summer, and this summer our shelter benefitted from the efforts of some young entrepreneurs who helped make a difference for Cove’s animals. We’re so grateful to four community-minded youngsters, Peyton, Ava, Arielle and Chloe, who raised $200 from their lemonade sales and generously donated the money to Cove! They are a true inspiration in showing that kindness and a philanthropic spirit can begin at any age. Thank you, and two paws up from our dogs and cats!
